Keep it safe

Always remember to wear gloves and eye protection. These blades are sharp!

Also note that in the photos we are coiling bandsaw blades with safety capping, which reduces the risk of injury.

The bench twist

The easiest way to fold a bandsaw blade is by using a bench.

This is done by pushing the bottom section of the blade towards the bench, then twisting your hands in towards each other and finally pushing down to form the coil.

Let’s break it down.

1. How to hold the blade

Start by holding the bandsaw blade in front of you, with the bottom of the blade resting in the palm of your hands.

2. Push the blade against the bench

Hook the bottom section of the blade underneath the edge of the bench.

Now, start to push the top of the blade (the section you’re holding), in towards the bench.

3. Twist the blade

As you’re pushing in, start to twist your hands in towards each other.

This is where it starts to look like a coil.

As your hands meet, you’ll notice that you’re pushing down slightly.

Suddenly, you’re holding a folded bandsaw blade!

There are many other ways to do this, but this is the easiest way.

Preventing it from coming undone

Always remember to put a cable tie around the bandsaw blade to keep it coiled – especially if it is going to be transported.
